🦍 Arai XD-5 Helmet | Ape-Approved
We haven’t thrown the new XD-5 through the wringer just yet, but if it’s anything like its predecessor, the legendary XD-4, it’s already got our attention. The XD-5 isn’t some lazy refresh — Arai went back to the drawing board and fine-tuned nearly everything that made the XD-4 a fan favorite.
First thing you’ll notice? More airflow. The chin vent is massive now, and the whole ventilation system actually moves serious air — a big deal when you’re sweating through slow technical sections. The new VAS-A visor system also gives you a wider field of view and improves that “glancing-off” protection Arai is famous for.
Fit is more refined too — a little roomier around the cheeks, easier on/off, and better pockets for comms gear. Basically, it’s more comfortable, safer, and even more adaptable whether you’re ripping gravel or logging highway miles.
It’s still Arai — hand-built in Japan, overbuilt in the best way, and priced like it knows what it’s worth. But honestly? You get what you pay for here. If the XD-4 was the gold standard, the XD-5 might just be platinum.
Verdict: The XD-5 doesn’t reinvent the wheel — it just makes one of the best ADV lids even better. Comfort, visibility, ventilation, and protection… all dialed up a notch. 100% Ape-approved.
